A riding crop is one of the means with which a rider can control a horse, giving a quick flick of the wrist to reprimand the horse. Decathlon stocks short whips – riding crops – for adult or child riders, but it’s important to remember how to use your other aids (your voice, hands and legs) to command the horse. A good example of this is how to subtly use spurs to pass signals on to the horse. Most riders simply point their heel a touch towards the horse and flick them up. This is as much as the horse needs to be directed and can barely be seen by observers. Be careful not to use a spur too much and cause the horse to bolt!
