TECHNICAL INFORMATIONS

OUR COMMITMENT TO CONSUME LESS WATER WITH THIS PRODUCT

Textile dyeing requires a lot of water but also produces waste water from the dye baths. To reduce our environmental impact, we use this self-pigmentation process for our blue jackets that involves adding the colour pigments when the yarn itself is produced.

Recycled polyester

By recycling plastic bottles or used fabrics to produce our polyester, we reduce the use of petrol-based resources while maintaining the material's quality and performance for your hikes. Our three-colour Raincut jackets contain at least 25% recycled polyester.

Recycled polyamide

Our three-colour Raincut jackets contain at least 44% recycled polyamide. What does that mean? As well as being technical, this jacket has been designed to take into account its environmental impact. In brief: polyamide is a synthetic material made from petroleum. Using recycled polyamide means recovering and transforming production offcuts or products intended for disposal instead of using new petroleum-based resources. It's a step forward in itself, isn't it?

Water repellent without PFC

The fabric of this jacket is water repellent: it lets water slide over its surface without seeping in. In this way, the fabric doesn’t soak up water and stays light and breathable.
The water-repellent property is achieved by treating the fabric's exterior: it doesn’t use fluorinated compounds, which have a harmful impact on fauna and flora.

Durable performance of your jacket

To maintain a durable water-repellent fabric, we recommend reactivating it regularly.
Do this every three washes (it is important to rinse abundantly) or after a dozen uses in the rain.
You can easily reactivate the water repellent property by warming the fabric:
- in a tumble dryer for 15 minutes (synthetic program)
- with a hair dryer at a distance of 20 cm by going back and forth twice
- or two passes with an iron on the delicate setting without the steam function.

Waterproofing of the component of this jacket

The waterproofness of a fabric, provided by a coating or membrane, is measured in Schmerber or mm H20 (pressure exerted by a column of water). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric.
This jacket is designed with a waterproof coating (JIS 1092 standard): this component resists 5,000 mm H20 (Schmerbers) before washing (equivalent to the pressure exerted by a 5 metre column of water).

Fabric breathability

The fabric of this jacket is breathable: RET = 12.
Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET).
This is its capacity to let water vapour generated by the body during physical activity escape and therefore avoid water accumulating on the skin.
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.
RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric
RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric
RET ≤ 20: little or no breathability

Choose your waterproof jacket according to your sports effort

This rain jacket has been designed for a 2-hour hike at a pace of 5 km/h max., without elevation gain.
During sports activity, the extent to which we perspire depends on the intensity or the duration of the physical effort If the breathability of the fabric is not adapted to your type of physical activity, the perspiration vapour condenses inside the jacket You will feel damp inside this is not rain coming through but perspiration vapour condensing You therefore need to choose a rain jacket according to your type of physical activity.

Additional recommended products

Wear the Raincut waterproof over-trousers to protect your lower body as well. You will then have a comprehensive protection system that is very effective against the wind and showers.
And, first and foremost: the over trousers are also eco-designed using the mass pigmentation dyeing process.

TESTS AND WARRANTY

Test product

Our Quechua global design centre is based in Passy, at the foot of Mont-Blanc in Haute-Savoie. This location makes it a real meeting place for our teams (designers, product managers, engineers, etc.) and outdoor sports enthusiasts to test our products on natural terrain. Our range of waterproof jackets and over trousers also undergoes a shower test in our climatic chamber at our Decathlon Sportslab laboratory near Lille.
